Lindsay is a Befriender for Robert who lives in Bristol (some names have been changed)

I decided to become a Time 2 Share Befriender because, although I get to work with children every day, I never get the opportunity to just 'hang out' with them. Working one to one with a child seemed like a good opportunity to do that.

I also had made a new years resolution to do some volunteering and Time 2 Share seemed flexible enough to fit in with my working life.

I get on with Robert very well. He is always pleased to see me and we have a fun time when we go out together. We have occasionally spent time with his brother too, which gives them both time to spend together away from mum and dad.

Mum and dad say that they are very pleased that Robert  is able to get out and experience things on his own and that they have the time to give his brother one to one attention.

Robert and I have a lot of fun together, rolling down hills and play fights mainly! and eating!

We have been to @ Bristol, on the Bristol Ferry, to play golf, football in the park, swimming and baking cakes.

Because of being a Time 2 Share Befriender I have been able to develop a friendly relationship with a child and spend time getting to know him and what he likes/ dislikes and how he does things.  I have enjoyed watching how he develops as he gets to know me better and his real personality comes out.  I have gained hours of amusement listening to the things he says and the way he looks at the world which is often enlightening and always amusing.

My boyfriend has also become involved in taking Robert out on occasions and he has really enjoyed this. He was never interested in volunteering before and has never had much contact with children but in working with Robert he has realised that he is quite good at it.  Robert has enjoyed getting to know my family too.
