History and Values We are a small local charity set up in 1972 to support families caring for a son or daughter with learning difficulties. We were one of the first organisation to offer home based short breaks for disabled children and their parents / carers. Disabled people and their families still experience prejudice and difficulties caused by other people's negative attitudes. Many young people and their families become socially isolated. Our aim is to offer disabled young people increased choice, independence, and confidence to pursue their own interests within their local community. Out intention is that this leads to increased physical and mental wellbeing for the young person and their family carers and contributes to changing the attitudes within society which exclude disabled people. We remain committed to promoting the valuable contribution made by volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Volunteers provide the energy and commitment which help to make change a reality. Although we are a small organisation we can make a difference to individual lives and challenge values and attitudes which discriminate against disable young people and their families. |
