Parent Carer Participation Project

To increase parent and carer involvement in decision making a new programme has been set up which YOU can get involved in. It aims to help Bristol City Council to plan better services for disabled young people and adults for the future.

There will be a participation meeting on the 21st May 2010 at The Council House for parents and carers to talk about important areas to be developed. This is your opportunity to have your voice on disabled peoples services heard, and your local area developed.

Monday Parent Carers Coffee Morning

For parents and carers of children under 18 with an illness, disability or special need.

Come along and enjoy coffee and cake and have a chat. The coffee morning will take place every second Monday of the month from June at 10-30am-12pm (except school holidays).

Horse World

A rescue centre for abused and neglected horses and ponies. There are lots of things to do and a variety of animals to see such as donkeys, goats, pigs, ferrets and birds. Watch horse jumping shows, visit the play barn, outdoor play area, nature trail and the onsite cafe. Horse World is only 20 minutes drive from town and a great day out.

Free: St Werburgh’s City Farm

Walking distance from Montpelier along public footpath- St Werburghs City Farm is a green oasis in the heart of Bristol. Entry to the farm is free so anyone can experience first hand contact with the natural world. On the farm there is a range of livestock such as pigs, cows and sheep, a community garden, an adventure playground and a friendly cafe. We also have the Boiling Wells Project which is a 3 acre environmental conservation site on Boiling Wells Lane.

Bristol Concert Orchestra are offering free admission to a concert for children at St Alban’s Church, Westbury Park.

The orchestra is passionate about inspring the next generation of Bristol musicians and hope as many children as possible will come to be spellbound by Poulenc’s setting of the delightful story of Babar the Little Elephant (narrated by T.M. Alexander, Bristol author of the ’Tribe’ series of children’s books) and thrilled by the sound of a full orchestra in Offenbach’s ’Orpheus in the Underworld’ overture, which includes the famous ’can-can’ music.

Admission is free to children under 12 AND adults accompanied by children, with an optional retiring collection (admission for unaccompanied adults is £8).

Bringing Scouting to young people with special needs….

Headquarters: Bristol 600 Day Centre, Langhill Avenue , Inns Court , Bristol

The Cubs and Scouts meet on a Monday between 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The Explorer Scouts, Network Scouts and Scout Fellowship meet on Tuesday between 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Cubs…. Age : 8 -10 1/2 years old…

The Cub Scout Leader runs the Pack with a team of assistants… Activities include : swimming , music , exploring , computing , collecting , trips to zoo , local theme parks or even to a farm!

Scouts… 10 – 15 years old…

Officially the final section in our scout group… The scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme.. there are a number of challenges , awards and activity badges to be earned…

Explorer…14 – 18 years old…

An Explorer Scout will get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts in the District and by doing this an Explorer scout will get the chance to do many more activities.. they also operate the Duke of Edinburgh Associations Award Scheme

Network… All members of The Scout Asociation aged between 18-25 years are members of the Scout Network which is a Country Based Section.

Anyone who is 18+ years and who is interested in helping or doing Scouting activities can join the Scout Fellowship which is open to the able and the less able

Khaas provides an opportunity for carers to socialise, share problems /experiences and offer mutual support to ease the pressures of caring….

Khaas provides many activities that you can get involved in…

Saturday Respite Care – This project provides group activities for disabled children and their families every saturday throughout the year..

Holiday Playscheme  – The playscheme runs throughout Easter , Summer and Half Term. A variety of activities takes place including arts and crafts and outdoor activities

Health Related Sessions – Khaas provides various sessions such as keeping fit , aromatheraphy , reflexology and many more….

Female Carers Project – This project is aimed at 11 – 19 year olds who are siblings/ carers of disabled children. Khaas offers then respite , and the opportunity to meet every saturday in an informal setting to share experiences and information.

One to one group- This is a flexibly run service that offers one to one and group counselling

Family Day

ERIC , the Bristol based childhood continence charity , is holding a free family day in Kingswood, Bristol….

The day is for any family whose children currently have or previously have had continence problems , such as bed wetting , daytime wetting , soiling or constipation.

The family day will allow parents to talk to other parents with the same problems and to share expreriences . Whilst children will be ablet otake part in fun and enaging circus skills session, where they can learn how to juggle , spin plates and perform other circus skills…

International Women’s Day

Two’s Company

Two’s Company is the name of Life Cycle’s programme of tandem cycle rides in and around Bristol for people who are blind or visually impaired which is about to start up again. So, if you’re visually impaired and fancy going on a bike ride, or know someone who might be interested, the rides start in March.  They are suitable for all ages and abilities and our programme includes off-road rides in Ashton Court, trips along the lovely Strawberry Line to Cheddar, an expedition to the serene Forest of Dean, and a special tan dem Easter egg hunt for kids!
